Principal's Highlights
Dear Families,
We invite all parents/carers to join us for our upcoming parent/teacher conversations scheduled for Week 9 of this term. (24 June - 28 June)
These sessions serve as valuable opportunities to engage in constructive dialogue regarding your child's learning journey. During these session we will provide insight into your child's learning progress, showcasing samples of their work, and discussing general information about attitudes towards learning. We highly value your perspectives and invite you to schedule a meeting to delve deeper into your child's learning progress.
Look out for further details on how to book your session, coming your way soon. Your presence and involvement are highly valued as we strive to keep you informed about the strides your child is making in their educational endeavors.
Our educators are also currently in the process of crafting Mid-Year Reports.
Thanks to parents/carers of our Grade 6 students who attended our Grade 6 Camp information session on our upcoming trip to Canberra. Staff and students are eagerly looking forward to this event.
Just a reminder that it is Statewide Moderation for all teaching staff on Friday and a Public Holiday on Monday. Whether you're jet-setting, road tripping or staying in, don't forget to stay safe and warm as you enjoy the extra time off!

Hi, the School Executives here.
We just want to update you on what’s been happening lately. Firstly, let’s talk about the Interschool Cross Country which happened on the 4 June for our Grades 3 to 6 students. The event was held at Bayview Secondary School where people ran so fast that the event was ahead of schedule. Congrats to all who went to the Cross Country.
On a more academic note, all the classes are doing their Common Assessment Tasks which is just a fancy way of saying that we are doing a test. These tasks are used by teachers during their Moderation Day on Friday.
Prep-1FT, 2-3B, 4M and 5-6AH are going to be attending our Celebration Assembly on the 11 of June. Prep F, 1-2BC, 2-3G, 4-5-6S and 5-6D are going to attend the assembly on the 25 of June. Phoebe and Jamie from 4M will be hosting next week.
That’s all for now, bye!

Class Spotlight - 4M
This term 4M and 4/5/6S have been Inquiring into the properties of different materials.
We have learnt what is a fair test and we had to create our own fair test. We have also done experiments on what materials repel water and tensile strength. We recorded our results.

New School Website
We're excited to announce that our school has just launched a brand new website!
While it's still a work in progress, we invite all families to check it out and explore the latest updates, resources, and information about our school. Let's stay connected and engaged together!
Prep F & 1-2BC SLC Excursion
On Tuesday, Prep F and 1-2BC went on an excursion to the Sustainability Learning Centre. The day was divided into two parts. The first part involved loose-parts play, where the children used materials such as ladders, crates, old sleeping bags, and shovels to dig, play, and create collaboratively. The second session was about tuning into how First Nations people have connected to this place. We learned how First Nations people used their environment to survive and flourish.
Jed - "I worked with my friends to create a trip wire with mud underneath it. It was really fun because I got my hands dirty."
Leon and Delilah - "We learned that First Nations people created shelters. We got to create a shelter and it was really fun."
Poppy - "Fire was important to First Nations people because they used it to cook and keep warm. I had fun making a pretend fire with my friends."
Bob - "I learnt you could make a blanket out of an animal skin."
Millie - "I really enjoyed making the cubby with my friends."
Interschool Cross Country
Congratulations to the 43 students in Grades 3-6 who participated in the Division A SPSSA Interschool Cross Country on Tuesday this week.
All students demonstrated great determination and resilience when running in their races as well as supported other students from the sidelines with impressive cheering.
Thank you to all the parents and families that came along to support and watch their children race and provide that extra encouragement. Also thank you to our teaching staff Mrs Clark, Christie and Mr McVeigh and parent helper Leng (Brianna’s mum) who accompanied students on the day.
All students represented Mount Nelson at a high standard and should be extremely proud of their efforts.
"On Tuesday, students from Grade 3 to 6 went to the Interschool Cross Country. It was across the bridge at Bayview Secondary College. There were hundreds and hundreds of people there! There were 19 schools competing. The course was really long and windy and the ground was a bit wet. Everyone ran and did a great job! Thanks to Leng, Brianna’s mum who came with us."

All Schools Cross Country – Symmons Plains
Any students who participated in the Interschool Cross Country and are interested in going to All Schools, please ask your Class Teacher for a letter with further information. This needs to be returned to the school office.
It is the responsibility of the students to make their own way to and from this event as there will be no staff member attending on the day. Families can choose to carpool to the event if they wish.
Allergy Aware School
Dear Families,
To care for our students and minimise risks for students diagnosed with allergy induced anaphylaxis, MNPS is an Allergy Aware school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People works within the guidelines set by the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) which is the professional body in allergies and anaphylaxis.
ASCIA recommends minimising the risk of exposure, by encouraging self-responsibility and planning for effective responses to possible emergencies.
An allergy aware approach is recommended rather than implementing food bans. Banning certain foods is difficult and is not an effective strategy for preventing or managing anaphylaxis in schools.
Claiming to be ‘nut free’ or ‘banning peanuts’, for example, gives staff, students and families a false sense of security. Banning one food such as peanuts, does not help protect a student with other food allergies. Students can be allergic to a wide range of foods such as cow’s milk, egg and wheat which are staple foods that cannot be removed from school environments. Cow’s milk, eggs, wheat or sesame allergy (for example) can be just as serious as having a peanut or tree nut allergy.
In accordance with the Allergy Aware Best Practice Guidelines: we have a series of strategies in place, including handwashing, not sharing food and drinks, age‑appropriate education of students and staff training.
Our allergy aware strategy also includes some food restrictions, which is not the same as banning foods.
We are asking families not to send messy egg sandwiches or boiled eggs, nuts, nut bars and sticky nut spreads such as Nutella and Peanut butter in the lunch box for example. However, asking the entire school to avoid specific food allergens is unreasonable.
It is important that all classes observe these allergy awareness guidelines. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school and we will put you in contact with our school nurse. The parents/carers involved and staff greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter.
City to Casino
On Sunday, 26 May, 18 students from Mount Nelson Primary School participated in the City to Casino Fun Run!
Despite the chilly 4-degree weather, each participant performed admirably, showcasing their resilience and determination. 👏🏼🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♀️❄

Text features can include, index, glossary, photographs, map, table, captions, sub-headings, diagrams and even speech bubbles! Digital texts have their own range of text features that help the reader navigate the text and comprehend the text.

Our focus will be on robust planning, connection to the curriculum, and student voice. We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
Front Car Park Reminder
Parking has become congested during peak school drop off and pick up times. Please be mindful of residents and not blocking access to their properties.
If your children are in the bottom classrooms (Prep-1FT, 2-3G, 2-3B) please be aware you can park in the bottom carpark for easier access points.
- We encourage parents/carers not to park on the right-hand side of Tangara Rd (indicated on
the diagram) - If you are the first car in the carpark for pick up, please drive right through the carpark and
begin lining up from the top (indicated as spot number 1 on the diagram) to avoid congestion. - Please do not leave your vehicle while in the “park and sit” lane. If a car in front of you exits
the carpark or moves forward, please shuffle forward so other cars behind can fit in. - If the “park and sit” lane is full, please use the right-hand lane to do a block until a spot becomes available.
Green markers are “park and sit” spots in the left lane. Please wait in your car for your child/children to meet you there.
Yellow lane is a no stopping lane from 2.50 pm - 3.10 pm to help cars flow easier.
We have a staff member on duty at these times in high vis vests - please follow their instructions.
If you have any concerns/issues, please contact the office for further information.
Thank you in ensuring all children are dropped off and collected safely each school day.

From the School Association
“Running the canteen is a way for me to be part of the school community. It’s a way to significantly contribute to raising funds for the school, for us to be able to buy additional educational material or things that the school really need. Sarah and I have developed a very smooth system of handover from week to week (Wednesday canteen vs Friday canteen). It works really well for us and hope we’ve developed a system that’s easily transferrable”
