Class Spotlight - 5/6D
In 5/6D we have kicked off Term 2 by investigating how journalists use statistics when reporting. We examined an article and the data, to check if the journalist was interpreting the data correctly, and identified some misconceptions!
We have also launched our Inquiry into “Who is Responsible for Australia’s Democracy?” with 5/6AH. We gathered all of our first thinking, which was an impressive amount. We then sorted this into which of the four key pillars of democracy that they belonged. We have also begun to generate our wondering and have posed some fantastic questions to help guide our inquiry!
Week 1 Learning Snapshot - Media Team
Here are some pictures from the first week back in term 2.
These are some students working in classrooms ranging from Preps to Grade 5's, we were very impressed by all of the hard work these students are doing in the first week of term 2.

Leadership Conference - Grade 6
Hello, we are the School Executives, we have recently been to Huonville Primary to the Primary Leadership Conference.
When we were there, we started with a few people talking about why we were there, some others that were talking about life stories and we used that information and key words to bump up our vocabulary. Next we had recess with a lot of free food prepared by the year 10’s. Next we moved to the PCYC and we split into groups of 4. We needed to have people from different schools in our groups and we wrote down things that make a good leaders.
After we did that, we had to get into a line of birthdays from 1 Jan to 31 Dec in the quickest time possible. Then we split into 2 groups and in our group we lined up by alphabetical order by first and last name. After lunch we went upstairs for two more activities that helped us learning about collaboration. We learnt how to be better leaders and how to work with people we didn’t know as well as adapt to different situation.

Peer Support
Our Kinders are so lucky to have the support of our Grade 6's for their Buddy sessions.
Lars and Sam loved reading the Kinder students a book and explaining to them what’s happening, they are also encouraging them to read and enjoy books!
Music at MNPS
Our Junior Choir is performing a musical this term called The Fisherman’s Wife.
"Our musical is called The Fisherman’s Wife. Someone dresses up as the fisherman, someone as the fisherman’s wife and someone as the fish. The fisherman’s wife wants the fisherman to catch the magic fish because he caught it before and the fish granted them a wish. The magic fish says ‘ I’m a special magic fish with s special fishy wish. Make a wish today and I’ll grant it right away."

Before/After School Hours - Duty of Care
Mount Nelson Primary School staff have duty of care from 8.30 am with school finishing at 3.00 pm.
Mount Nelson Primary School's hours are 8.30 am through to 3.00 pm. It is important that parents/carers do not bring children to school before school hours because there is no supervision of students at that time. Prior to 8.30 is also an important preparation time for our teachers. Similarly, it is important parents/carers either collect their children at the end of the school day, arrange for them to catch the bus home or make other collection arrangements so students are not left unsupervised at the end of the school day.
Unsupervised students may engage in dangerous play or put themselves in dangerous locations. Parents/carers are responsible for their child outside school hours unless they have accessed school based child care during these times.
Rubbish Reminder!
To stop rubbish ending up in our playground here are some things you can do:
- You can buy things with less or no packaging.
- You can unwrap the things at home.
- If you do have rubbish, you can keep it in your lunchbox or put it in the bin when you get home or you can put them in the bins at school.
